Job opportunities

Excellent students and postdocs are always invited to write an open application letter to Dirk Bouwmeester, Michiel de Dood, Eric Eliel, or Martin van Exter, depending on their interest. Your application letter should include a CV, a publication list, a motivation, and the names of 3 referees who are willing to write a recommendation. For applicants to any PhD or postdoc position we require:

  • A solid experimental background in modern optics. For PhD candidates this boils down to "How much time did you actually spend in the laboratory?" and "Which experiments did you perform?"
  • A good conceptual knowledge of the theory involved. Are you attracted to key fundamental issues in optics?
  • A sufficient knowledge of the English language to ensure good oral and written communication. This is most easily judged from official certificates such as TOEFL.
  • Excellent ratings in courses at university level physics.

PhD candidates are encouraged to also have a look at the website of the Leiden-Delft Casimir Research School. Application via this website is also possible.

More general information, for graduate students and postdocs, on the scientific atmosphere in the group "QO&QI" and in Leiden in general is available in a short introduction, under the header Working in Leiden.
